The 112 and 113 motors use an automatic start function that also can cause some problems. If the instantanoeus current loading is too great it stops the starting activity. Mercedes solution is to lube the starter ring gear with a special non magnetic antiseize.

If the voltage stays during the cranking attempt you might want to check the above. There is a service bulletin on the issue and it has been discussed here so there should be archive info. I have only seen the instance once and it was accompanied by a swing from the tach above 2000rpms another condition noted in the bulletin.

We have 2000 ML tow-in shop yesterday he call Auto Club for help because the ML battery is dead,Auto Club try to jumped start the ML but no craking, after we replace the dead battery with new battery ML fire right up but ABS,ESP,BAS,brake pad light all light up at dash,we try to resynchronize steering angle sensor but the light won't go out, after we check the ESP system we found this (pic) $400.00 ESP control unit is BBQ be careful next time when you jump start your ML,or any late model MB.

I wonder why traction control devices are so sensitive to voltage? When I had the car-electronics biz, you were fired on the spot for boosting a car. We had replaced way too many "black-boxes" of one sort or another from boosting. The most common part to burn-up was traction control modules.

Chrysler had these "Body Control Modules" that were terribly fragile. That was one of the only ones I can recall that wouls fry as fast as a traction module.
