126 Rear Suspension Part Question

Car in question is an 87 300SDL. I took it in to have the tires rotated and balanced and to have a noise checked out in the rear passenger side of the vehicle.

I was told the right rear lower control arm was in need of replacement, but they didn't have time to write a quote while I was there. By the time I got home they left a message indicating they didn't have access to Mercedes suspension parts.

I've searched this board a bit for a rough idea of what this job entails. Also checked FastLane for the part with no luck.

Could this part be called something different? And if so, what should I be expecting costwise. And if I decide it's too involved, what to expect at a shop.

Thanks!

W126 rear control arms rusting out is a problem.

Expensive -- used part will be around $500, new is $900 or more, takes about 4 hours for a good tech to replace, maybe more. PITA.

Rear lower control arms on 126 cars are a bunch of money new. In my area the only reason one would ever replace control arms would be after an accident, but I have seen them rust out.

They should be readily available used for a fifth of new price. I got a whoe yard full of them unless you have the aluminum arms used with hydraulic suspension.

Replacement is just work.

I don't have the hydraulic suspension. Would you be willing to sell one of the ones you have? You can email me at Lance.Allison@mchsi.com

How about drilling some drain holes in the low parts of the LCA?
