Dying (now dead) turn signals on 84 W126
 

I don't know if the hot weather had something to do with it but yesterday, my car's turn signals started to fail. First it would blink twice, then stop. Then it would blink once then stop. Now it doesn't blink at all.

I checked the fuses and they're ok. Other electrical systems that share the fuse with the blinker are working ok. Given the way the blinkers died (trying then dying, then dead) makes me think it's whatever device controls the blinker... I don't know the exact name... some kind of regulator.

Where is that regulator located? Do those things fail much? Is it a pricey item? Could it be something else?

check to see if your bulb is at all loose

its your relay
 

its under your dash. remove the kicpanel under the steeringwheel. right behind the speedo (you have to go up under the dash, though).. the relay is held on by a clip and is pointing upward, and is a little hard to see. get a bright flashlight to find it. i did the job in less than an hour and i took my time.

be sure and wear protective eyewear as there is tons of crap that falls down from there when you start fishing around.

i got a relay for about $30 from mbz.org guys.

The relay is indeed almost impossible to see when you take out the instrument cluster. The relay is hidden by a crossbar and is plugged in away from view when looking down the instrument cluster cavity.

I ended up giving up and handing it over to a mechanic who also took a while to find it.
