I don't know what is this "paper residue" that you are gettin' when you are vacuuming. It seems the bottom of my mats are made out of a durable foam-like material. Nevertheless, you should probably go to the dealership or wherever you bought the mats from and let them check it out. They shouldn't be fallin' apart so quickly.

I bought a set of the mats from Performance Products and can't say enough good things about them. They are very high quality and they stay put.

MB mats have a foam backing and come with a metal clamp that secures the mats to the floor board carpeting. I guess the foam could rub off if the clamps are not used.

My 400E had aftermarket mats in it when I bought it. The aftermarket mats had a paper like, cloth like, sticky backing that was meant to hold the mats in place without clamps. I ditched them after about a week in the car because they were not "exactly" the right size and fit nor did the stickly backing keep the mats in place.

it is the foam type backing that is falling of it's like its trying to grip the ground and it falls of the mat and gets lose and rips.

THe BEST mats by far are the Lloyds Mats, the HEAVY DUTY ones. They are about 38oz of luxurious carpet, nice and thick (provides additional sound proofing), are stain resistant and feature non-slip backing. I've not seen mats of this quality before. I just got a set for my CL and short of putting down lambs wool e.g. Jaguar Vanden Plas, these are the best.

Benzman, There is a nice set of W126 floor mats on ebay. A great German mechanic I know in Venice, Florida is selling them. Do a search via seller. His userID is Katjanmoeller@aol.com You can probably get them pretty inexpensive too. Last time I looked the bid was only $5.00.
