the quickest 190

well the wife seems to have gotten her arms around this benz thing i've been on for a few years. so now i'm looking to trick out a 190E ??.

my question is ... not considering condition of car, records kept, needed repairs or any kind of variables what would be the top pure stock performers in the 190E type vehicle.

i'm looking to find the hottest or strongest running mini sedan. any year or any of the different types 4 or 6 cyl, turbo or not and the only limit is it would have to be an automatic.

before it even hit the street it would get a complete make over and any repairs would be done complete probably even a new paint job.

i'd really appreciate some input guys. i really don't want to waste time looking at the models that invite snoring while driving.
tks
craig

i will be posting this in the perfomance section as well

You can do all kinds of things...

A 190E 2.6 is a bit slower than a 190E 2.3-16V, and the 16V has better suspension, 50% sold in US were manny-tranny, and the body work is nicer.

There have been cases of people shoehorning the 3.6L AMG engine from the C36 into the W201 body, and it makes a pretty exciting package.

A bone stock 190E 2.6 with manny tranny and Sportline package is a pretty nice car without any mods. Harder to find though.

My pick would be to start with a 2.3-16V and think about things like a 2.5 Evo conversion or other rodding upgrades.

Keep in mind that the 190E has been out of production for nearly 12 years, so hop-up bits are not sold on every corner...

2.3-16 . . . twin cam, most have 5-speed manual and limited slip diff, leather sport seating and a, appropriate for it's age, body kit. The downside is the maintenance costs, particularly with the model specific parts for the motor and SLS rear suspension. Add to that, it seems that most "used" 16 valves truly were "used" by previous owners (usually the second or third) that didn't want to deal with the cost of maintenance of these cars.

2.6L . . . smooth six, just slightly less HP but wider power band, typically with a 4 speed auto trans, but there are a few 5-speeds out there. Feels like a much bigger car than it appears from the outside.

With enough $ there's pretty much no limit to the mods to the car, there are even some former DTM 190Es for sale in Florida. In addtion to turbos, supercharges and Mercedes motor swaps, a twin turbo Supra engine will go in there.

You may want to check out www.190revolution.net

It is a 190E specific forum with a few 86-87 16 Valves in the classifieds. ;)
