1996 keyless in a w210- IR only?
 

Hi,

The keyless in my fathers new 96 e300d doesnt work. If I point it through the windshield right at the mirror sensor, all is well. But it doesnt seem to work through the side windows (Is there a handle sensor on the early w210 cars?) or from anywhere else.

Key and transmitter have hardly ben used at all, batteries fresh, nothing...

From doing a search, Ive seen that apparently 1995 cars (dont remember the model) were IR only. This would explain my operation... Are early w210 cars IR only?

In 1996 that was the design! only IR receiver was on the mirror! That didn't last as there were TOO many complaints about how hard it was to lock-unlock & if there was snow on the windshield it was next to impossible
