I have the BAS/ETS light on my '99 ML320 (just crossed 60,000 miles). It does not come on until the vehicle is started and I first tought the brake pedal. I do not have to really get it to move much at all and it comes on and stays on for the duration.
Having read the article I did the stoplight switch replacement (about a 10 min. job and the part cost $13.00) since I was hoping tha would do the trick. Nope.. I still get the light. But I get it sooner now that the new stop light switch plunger extends out abit more than the one I removed (I checked part numbers and they were identical and my VIN was in the right range for the part I ordered). At any rate.. I'm wonding what the deal is. I tried the re-setting of the sterring angle but that did not seem to help either. I was hoping it's something simple since the problem started after my wife left our 2 year old in the car for 1 min. while placing our daughter on the school bus only to return and find the wipers, lights, radio, etc. was all turned up and on when she put the kesy in the ignition. The only thing that she could not 'trun off' was this infernal light. Any other things that an end-user can try to diagnose? It sounds like the fault codes for this system are not detected by the generic ODB-II scanners since this has nothing to do with emissions systems. Dealer is 60 miles and about 90 min. away so it's a real pain to get there for a code scan. Help?
