I found a diesel engine at a salvage yard 115K miles out of a 83 300SD for $1800.00 what are yalls feelings on salvage yard engines? This includes turbo and injection pump. Also will this engine work in a 85 300SD? Thanks in advance. :D :D :D

No problem with a salvage yard engine, and no immediate problem with using it in a 85. Except the injection pump is different in 85. There are a number of slight differences like a crank sensor that is used for engine speed for the A/C system.

The car would need to be set up as the earlier model.

The major problem here is that you will have better than 3-3500 dollars of value by the time the project is finished and you will still have a used motor of dubious history (I didn't know that salvage yard motors ever had more than a 100k [bg])and minor rigging.

If you are planning on selling the car the whole project is poor. If you are planning on driving the car a proper rebuild has much more value.

It means big grin, tongue in cheek so to speak. In other words, how likely is it that a 17 year old diesel motor has 115k miles on it.

Ok. Yea I see what you mean.

I wish you supposedly technical people would stop calling an engine a motor. Motors run on electricity, hydraulics, air etc. Engines run by burning a fuel either internally or externally. Did you ever hear of a steam motor? There is no such thing as a gasoline or diesel motor either.!

Now wait; I'm confused....

so vehicles built by Bavarian Motor Works don't have motors?

and Mercedes' indefatigable OM617 really isn't an "M" after all?

As anyone informed Stuttgart and München? [BG]

Yes, yes yes. A motor is a motor and a engine is a engine. If you were in the service and called a engine a motor, you would have a hammer shoved down your throat.
Ever hear of a electric engine? Or driving a 300HP 4x4, with 12 tires on it farm tractor and say the motor sure runs smooth. The motor in the sewing machine runs smooth, not the 18 wheeler.
Hey Shuster, did you get the visors from Minnesota???? Tom Karels. Thanks.
I have lots of parts for sale from a 83 123,
such as a rebuilt trans, injector pump, cylinder head, A/C pump, Alternator, Starter,
complete rear axle, front suspension, etc, etc, CHEAP
