I have an 89 300E and in the "Featured Cars" section of this web site I read that they came standard with leather. Mine has the MB vinyl stuff, which I don't mind, but was wondering, if they were supose to come with leather, standard, why not mine?

my '87 300e was tex interior. I understand that prior to '89 or '90, tex was standard with leather optional. I am uncertain as to when the 300E's began carrying leather as std. If you have read that '89's had leather std, I wonder when during the year yours was built...could it be a late '88 manufactured '89 ???
Look at the bright side, MB Tex is virtually indestructible...Mine mad it through infant seats and 225,000 miles of use... |

Mermaid:
My 87 300E has MB-Tex as well - Burgundy - I thought it was leather when I got the car. I prefer it over the leather as it is less maintenance than the other leather interiors I owned, and I have no problems with my Golden Retriever on the MB-Tex. (or at least, no problems that a vacuum and lint roller won't solve ). ------------------ JCE 87 300E, 65k miles Smoke Silver |

Some of these "standard" items did seem to come out mid-year. For example, my SD manual mentions ABS and SRS (I think) and my mid-year 84 has neither feature.
I agree that MB-Tex holds up much much better than leather. Just take a look at some of the mid-80's cars for sale on Ebay. The cars with leather show a lot more wear. ------------------ Robert W. Roe 1984 300SD 171K mi |

Be glad you have the MB-tex interior, it always looks great, even if you only clean it once in a blue moon. :0

Mermaid,
I agree with all the previous posts. This stuff wears like iron. You will never find a leather interior that holds up as well as the MB Tex. Low maintenance and virtually indestructible...IMHO the only thing missing is the leather smell.... ------------------ Donwo 1987 300E (60,000 mi) |

The leather in my '88 300E is PERFECT. I admit, it's a hassle to put the goop on it twice a year, but this leather has worn like iron just like the MB Tex.

Mermaid, (I love that name... my motto is "If you're not in the water, you aren't having fun!!")
My '89 300E has the MB-Tex vinyl seats in it. They are in super shape and will outlast leather and look better in the process... now if only they smelled like leather...! ------------------ Jay Yambrovich 1989 300 E 1992 190-E 2.3 |
