I HAVE A 300E THAT RUNS OK EXEPT FOR A SLIGHTLY ROUGH IDLE , A DELAY ON TAKE OFF AND A NOTICEABLE AMOUNT OF HORSEPOWER LOSS.
WHATS WIERD IS IF YOU LET THE CAR SIT FOR A DAY EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT TILL THE NEXT DAY I TESTED THE THEORY AGAIN AND DIDNT USE IT FOR 4 DAYS. IT WAS 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE WHEN I STARTED IT AND ALL I HAD TO DO WAS TAP THE IGNITION AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP! USUALLY IT TAKES A RETRY OR AT LEAST TWO SECONDS BEFORE IT WILL IGNITE. I HOPE THAT THE INFO GIVEN WILL BE ENOUGH FOR A REASONABLE EXPLANATION. ANY RESPONCE WILL BE GREATELY EPRECIATED. THANKS, ADAM |

Two things to check here. Well three. Check the over-voltage relay, the ignition coil, and the EHA

Adam, EHA stands for Electro Hydraulic Actuator. This is the critter that looks like an octopus to the left front of your throttle body. Has lines coming out for all the injectors. It basically is a fuel metering device which responds to inputs from various systems and provides the correct amount of fuel to the injectors based on the current operating profile generated by the engine (motor!! )management system. Can be the root of all evil, but generally reliable given it's complex function.

You can get a rebuilt, or you can buy new. Make sure that's the problem first. Eliminate the first two Donnie mentioned, coil and OVP relay. As he stated the EHA was the last on the list.

Jeff, your description applies to the fuel distributor not the EHA. The EHA is a black plastic chunk on the side of the fuel distributor. It isn't all that expensive and it also is not the problem usually even though its activity is critical for good drivability.
The EHA is a current controlled variable leak to the differential pressure of the fuel distributor. It is the sole vehicle for electronic fuel control. When it isn't functioning the car will hard cold start, have poor cold running characteristics and hesitate on sudden acceleration. The EHA's most common fault is leaking fuel. One of the ways it fails could explain the original condition here. The device is known to loose its stability. It causes different pressure drops for the amount of current used to control. This causes fluctuating mixtures. [This message has been edited by stevebfl (edited 09-09-2000).] |

See, and I thought that thing was all one big chunk of expensive MBZ engineering. Thanks Steve. As I have always said of this board and of you and Donnie in particular, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't learn something about our beloved Benzes. Keep sending the good stuff. Anyway, Adam, try the other stuff that Donnie mentioned first..
