92 300E Sportline, still wont start, new Fuel Dist..etc..
Still can't get it!
OK, Fuel distributor is new. It can't be the fuel pump relay as the car is getting fuel once it's running. I just can't start it without spraying some carb cleaner over the intake. It's idling at 500rpms, and when I try to drive it it stumbles and has very low poer. Sometimes it's ok, sometimes it barely moves. The rubber boot under the intake plenum is also new as the old one was badly cracked. I'm at a loss here. Surely someone has an idea? |

This is freaking rich.
Fuel is going INTO the distributor, but is not leaving it. I have fuel going from the main feed line and exiting the return line. The engine barely starts... what is happening is I loosedned some of the lines going to the injectors.. Nothing. No fuel pulses to the injectors. Looks like a bad distributor I'll go back to banging my head against the walkl and call the parts house tomorrow so they can warranty it. |

If the fuel distributor is getting fuel, but not to the injectors, that would suggest too low fuel pressure...........weak fuel pump? Have the pressures tested.

1990 300E WON'T START
I have the same problem. I can start the care after putting some gas in the air intake, but once turned-off, I can't restart. Replaced fuel accumulator ( oouch $ 95), Still the same problem.
Is it not true that since the car can be started by putting gas in air intake & runs without any problem, It means the fuel pump is working? By the way, I have two fuel pumps? Can the engine on one pump if the other pump is working? |

Misery loves company-
I just went through similar pains with the 91 300e. I replaced the fuel pumps, fuel filter, cap and rotor (really needed it), the throttle positioning potentiometer and it still would not start. Arggh! I pulled the plugs and noticed that they were due by was convinced they were OK. I checked the crankshaft-positioning sensor and noticed the value was off. In the process of removing it I found the 5mm bolt was loose! Very loose. I had never been in that part of the engine before. I tightened it but still no start. Since I was seriously considering having towed somewhere I wanted to make sure I eliminated as many possibilities so I went ahead and changed the plugs. I gave it one last shot- Started immediately! Yes the plugs were worn but not that bad. It is now running like a champ. Go figure. Haasman

i just joined this elite "my car wont start " club. started fine this morining, wont start after work. so i left it there and hope its demons will be exorcised when i get back in the morning.
at first i thought i had fried the fuel pumps coz i couldnt hear them hissing. then i had a friend turn the key and i could hear it, but not as strongly as usual. tried to start it and it wouldnt. it would sputter, but not actually start. iknow im low on fuel but not that low, the light only went on yesterday, i should have at least two gallons of reserve when my light goes on unlike most of you i dont have somewhere to work on it (apartment dweller, street parking!) , and right now i cant afford to get major stuff done. i was about to start seriously budgeting for a head rebuild after this month. so any tips on what to check for and how to check for it would be appreciated.

When you say the fuel dist. is new, what do you mean? Did you or someone recently install it?
