1987 190E 16V track rod
I am in the process of replacing the control arms on my rear suspension. I am having a problem removing the track rod (210-350-21-53). It will not come out. I have used screw drivers, crow bars .. you name it. There is a tool in the shop manual (201-589-01-33-00) that I do not have and need. Any idea if MB still carries it and how much? Is there a substitute?

Track rod? Do you mean the "ball joint" on the tie rod (center link, has an eccentric on one end with a large cylinderical rubber bushing and a ball joint on the other?).
If so, a ball joint tool, preferably the clamp and screw kind rather than a pickle fork, will do the job. Pickle fork will work too, but is more of a PITA on that job. Other links all have bolts on both ends, not a problem other than getting the bolts through the mounts and lack of access on the torque link. Peter

Yep, that's the one. Where can I get that tool? I've beenpounding away at it for a while and it will not budge.
Also, whats the best wrench to remove a stoborn bolt? I seem to recall seing something on TV about a wrench that grabs the bolt on the flat side rather than the corner. One of my bolts is frozen. Tried WD 40 and some stuff I got from a auto parts store and no luck. What should be a fairly straight forward job is turning in to a royal PITA. thanks

Auto parts store will have the pickle fork, but you may have trouble finding a clamp type tool that will work (US standard is too big, won't stay on). Take the part with you, you'll be able to figure it out.
Best way to break one of those bolts loose is a breaker bar -- 18" minumun size, half inch coupling. Shouldn't have any trouble. Can't use it on the inner torque link end, though, no room. I've never had any trouble getting them out other than forgeting that the ALL have a nut -- bolt will turn forever on the washer if you don't counterhold the nut.... Peter
