oil loss
I just purchased a 1992 mercedes benz 300e. I looses approximately 2+ quarts of oil in 700 miles. It was always serviced by the book at a mercedes shop since new. It leaks none externally. Can anyone tell me where to look for possible solutions. It has no oil in the cooling system. Any help would be appreciated.

Any visible leaks all around and under the engine???
If not, oil is beihg burned in the engine so, you're in for a valve stem seal replacement job or a valve guide replacement job. Good luck JackD |

I was told the head gaskets on the 6 cylinder engines weren't good, and they made a better one. Do you know about this and possibly how to get the revised one? Why do some of the mercedes go 180 + k and no oil consumption and others just 50 + Kor less and they start the oil loss from the head problem?

The head gasket failure results in visible leaks (either coolant or oil or both).
Newer head gaskets are less prone to leakage. jackD |
