I have a 1993 500SEL and from last week my power-assist door close on the driver rear door fail and then the driver door and now even the trunk!!! What is happening? I heard that I might be up for big money for the pump! I hope not.

Any help out there?

Try removing # 9 fuse in trunk for a few seconds, after reinstalling check operation of closing assist. If it works for a few times then pump is on the way out.

Unfortunately the most likely cause is the pump. It however is located in the left trunk area behind the Bose Amp unit if you need to get to it.
I don't know if anyone know of re-man units, the new ones are expensive.

Thank you so much. By removing and reinstalling the fuse #9 fixed the problem. I hope it will last for a while.

The temperture dial on the centre console is out. Any tips in fixing it? I have no idea how to take those controls out!

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Michael Tse

Yes, there are aftermarket repair facilities that do the door closing assist units. They cost about half of what MB charges and with the same warranty, one year. Take your choice. Last I ckd. with MB it was about $800US.

As there are 2 different brands of A/C controls & different bulb replacements techniques I wouldn't make attempt w/o removing the assembly.

Closing Assist pump is about a $950 job at the dealer...you will notice the newer pump has been updated and makes the doors/truck close faster. As for the climate control unit its a sealed part and has to be replaced. Cost of the part is $1400.00...luckily I had both replaced under warranty...good luck

Uuuhm, it is definitely not cheap for a coupleof light builb. Actually, the light blubs problem is not with the push button, it was actuially the dial and temperature display. The temperature display is showing the temperature but the light behind it is not wotking. The temperature dial is the same. It is functioning but just the light.

Many thanks anyway.
