Can anyone tell me the exact number of the transmission on my 1976 300D?

The VIN# is 11511412047381

I want to make sure that I get the right tranny kit. It seems that info about MBZ transmissions are well kept secrets!

Also, is there a site I can go to to double-check part numbers so that I don't have to keep returning parts until they get it right!

I cannot seem to access datacard information for your car. About all I can find is that the automatic transmission is a 722.109

No data card on file, however as prior post, you do have a 722.109 W 4 B 025.
115-270-17-01 should be the transmission installed in your car.

Thank you all for the information...it helped a lot. With the gracious help of enthusiasts like yourselves I get a little smarter about my MBZ every day. Thanks again.

Is there a web site with info about MBZ part numbers, part number upgrades, etc. so that I know the parts I buy are the right ones BEFORE I dismantle something and find out the new part isn't correct?

http://www.peterschmid.com/default.htm

This site has pictures of broken down MB transmissions, however to find actual part numbers may be a problem due to copyright infringement issues.
