In your 1999 archives, there is reference to a sunroof problem as follows:

"when I trigger the sunroof switch on my '99 CLK that the sunroof would only open about 5" at a time, so I would have to activate the switch numerous times before it would fully open"

you replied as follows:

"Mercedes knows about the problem. It's the overhead control unit(dome lamp). Try to resyncronizing the system by going to the pop-up position & holding up on the switch for 4-6sec, you should hear a "click" from the unit when it completes the task. The modified unit should be avail. & shouldn't have this problem, see your dealer!"

My dealer wants to order the correct part, but cannot tell from this description whether I need a motor, relay, or both. Can you be more specific?

Thanks!

Eli

The dome lamp assembly (overhead control unit) is a computer (N70) & it is the problem part.

Is this problem an issue on a W210? My dealer changed the motor of the sunroof and thought the problem of the sunroof sometimes not closing after it has been opened was solved. It isn't. I have suspected that the actual control switch in the car my be losing contact somewhere, funnily enough the roof will then close after waiting anything between 10 mins and 5 hours. Do I need to have the dome switch changed as well?

Thanks for the response. I read that the 2001 model has a one touch sunroof. If my dealer replaces this part, can I use the 2001 replacement?

I have a 99 CLK 430 and the same thing happened to me. The power to your roof or main battery power must have been off and this would cause the roof to open in short movements and not tilt properly. You have to re-syncronize the roof . Check you owners manual it involves setting key to position 2 and pushing up on switch for a few seconds I believe.
