Tis the Season - A/C Stopped
I have a 2000 C280 (1 month out of warranty), and the AC blows hot air. I would like to try and repair it myself if at all possible.
Here is what I know: 1 EC light is NOT on 2 Compressor does not engage while temp set to LO or with climate control on defrost. Actually, it never engages now 3 Some codes from climate control while running 01: Interior temp 69 02: ambient temp 55 (yesterday it was 88 - Cleveland) 03: ?? 74 05: Evap temp 65 06: engine coolant temp 149 07: refrigerant pressure 006 (yesterday 009) 08: refrigerant temp 77 4 recent repair: blower motor replaced Any suggestions on where to start? |

O.K. after reading MANY posts of similar content, I have added information.
I think the #07 Refridgerant pressure is low? it reads 00*6 which if my calculations are correct is (.6X14.2) = 8.52 psi. Or, is this reading 6bar, and not .6bar? Also, I pulled the DTC memory codes with the following results: D1A - Current Faults - END (There were none) D1*A - Intermittant Faults 41*6 - Coolant circulation pump? 41*7 - Left Side Water Valve? help? |

You need to charge the system and check for leaks.
Good luck, |

If you car is really just one month out of warranty, take to the dealer. Often with a little whining you can get them to fix it. Especially if you have a service history with dealerships and/or you have a previous history of an AC repair. Haasman

What process did you use to get the AC fault codes for your C class? |

I believe that . . .
006 bar is "6" bar, so it's about 14.7 X 6 = 88.2. If that pressure is 'really' there, then that's typical for what you'd see driving the car on a not-to-hot day. In other words, that number is ok!
the "05" reading of '65F' is not good! If ac running you'll see a cycling numbers from 37F to 42F. And you'll feel that air coming from the vents! |

I have not replied because I was taking some mental health time off in good ole Mexico for a week.
Anyway, taxiboy - I turned the ignition on, set temp on climate control to LO and within 20 secs, prest the "rest" and "defroster button" simultaneously for more than 5 secs. This puts the system into diagnostics and the codes appear. The first set are the current faults, and the second are the intermittant codes. You will need to turn the ignition off to end the test. I got all the information from Alldata and I would suggest you do the same. This worked for my car, a 2000 C280, and I am not sure if it works for others the same way. JimF - Before I left for vacation, I put in some R134, and re-read the 07 code. 006 is .6 bar. I was completely empty. Once I put the R134 in, the air was blowing much cooler, and I was reading 12 - 13 bar. Now that I am back from vacation, I turned on the air and the 07 code is now reading 4 bar. I must have a leak somewhere and I need to find it. -B- |
