I have a 2000 SLK 230 and I just noticed that a puddle of water has accumulated under the driver's side floor mat. There is enough water that it has soaked through the mat! I noticed tracks of several streams that appear to be coming from the area of the lower vent on the console side of the driver's compartment. It's not just a little water; there is enough that the floor is soggy. What is this?

Don't know how the weather has been in sunny California but if you've been in a rainstorm that could be the source. The other is if no rain and lots of sun....and the use of your A/C, it could be a plugged evaporator drain line. Is the fluid clear and not sticky?
Another source of water, contaminated, is your heater core... a wild shot, but anything is possible. Ck. your coolant level.

You drains for the evaporator are for some reason, not functioning. This is hard to imagine in a brand new car. The condensate from the evaporator is finding it's way out the lower duct rather than the drain. Should be exiting the car on the topside of the tranny.

Check to see if the drain tube(s) is actually connected to the evaporator. The drains are either plugged or not connected.

Had a 91 Honda once, everytime a very tall person sat in the front passenger seat, their foot would dislodge the evap drain, making a soggy mess of the right rear floorboard.

Pardon me guys, but I have an entirely different perspective on this problem.

This man owns a new and expensive automobile. Not only should he not have this problem, he shouldn't have to try to fix it.

My suggestion would be to take it to his dealer, tell them to fix the damn thing, dry out the mats, remove all moisture from the area so there will be no mildew or rust problems in the future and call when it is done. Or am I missing something here?

:o :o :o, DOH, I didn't even consider the fact this is a NEW car. Too used to reading about older cars and DIY. By all means get it into the dealer for repair, and get them to dry it out ASAP.
