300SDL air conditioning leak

My air conditioniong does not work due to a coolant leak. My mechanic replaced the refrigerant in the car and it worked well for about a month - then it quit working. I asked the mechanic if he had used dye to find the leak and he assured me that he had. Hot weather is here again and I still do not have a functional system - what do I do? The car is supposed to go to the shop this week.

If he used the dye and you have run out, you should see the leak in the engine compartment, next to ac components. Or at the expansion valve.

If it is not present in those ares, the next logical and most difficult to look for is the evaporator. This one will also cost big $$ to fix as it is very time consumiong, althought I read somewhere on this board they generally are NOT the case.

Good luck.

Yes, with a black light you can find the dye at your leak UNLESS it is the evaporator. To check the evaporator with dye, you can't wait for the refrigerant to leak out. You have to shine a black light into the condensation drain water while the system is still cooling enough to make same.

Good luck,

Air Conditioner repair problem

Your suggestions are good and I shall certainly discuss them with my mechanic tomorrow when I take the car to the shop.

thanks a lot

Air conditioner leak

I took the car to the mechanic for diagnosis. He called me and asked that I take a look at the Air Conditioner Compressor while he exposed the die to light. It clearly revealed a leak in the Air Conditioner Compressor. It must be replaced.

Thanks
