fan switch

I have a 91 Mercedes Benz 190 E with a 2.3 automatic. I took out the panel on the console to look for the gear selector bulb. Now my fan switch stays on high all the time. What could I have done to the switch? Is there a fuse for the low speed on the switch? Or did I disconnect a wire from there?

I'm asking these questions on the fan switch because I work in the Republic of Georgia and my 190 is home in the states. A friend of mine is going to try and fix it, but he knows nothing about automobiles. I was trying to get some help here.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
