89 300e gauges stop working

The only gauge working is my speedometer, my tack, oil presure, gas gauge, all arn't working. Anyone know what might cause this to happen and how to fix it

I've never dealt with this particular problem before on a 124, but on a 123 this would indicate that the round connector on the back of the instrument cluster is loose.

I don't know if the 124 cluster has such a connector, but I would hook out the cluster and check. Before that I would look for a fuse that feeds the instruments.

Good luck,

This happened on my 300E about a year ago, although my speedo was out as well. Blown fuse. A quick check should prove this.

I've checked the fuses and don't seem to have any blown, it also is making a whining noise from behind the dash. kinda like a loose vacume.

They may not Look blown, but they yet may be. (hairline cracks are difficult to see, and very effective at stopping current flow.)

Replace all of them for good measure.

This happened to me twice since I had my car. The first time I replaced one fuse (I don't recall which) when all the gauges quit. Rather than your whining sound, I heard more of a weak buzzer sound, just as you are.

The second time, my tachometer and oil pressure gauges were bouncy, and my "bulb-out" light kept coming on. I replaced all the fuses and the problem has not returned.
