Removing exterior door mouldings on 500 SEC
Hi everyone, (I'm new to this forum )
I need to remove the exterior (big flat) plastic mouldings on the lower part of my car (it's a 1986 500 SEC) in order to remove some rust on the doors and in the wheelarches, but I don't know how to get these panels off the car. I've searched around various forums trying to find a previous post, but I haven't had any luck so far :/ I need to remove the panels on both doors, as well as the panels just behind the door, leading to the rear wheelarches. Also, what's really the proper name for these panels? I don't speak english natively and I've been confused with all kinds of different names, including rocker panels, door sill panels, plastic door mouldings, door cover panels etc. Another question: The driver side door is quite rusty, although not in any supporting areas, so is it adequate to remove the rust and repair using some kind of fiber glass, or do I need to weld new metal into the door? (it's a question about money since I'm not very rich and not very good at welding yet) Many thanks in advance! Regards, /Leon |
