Question for suginami? Re-badging 300E to E320?
Hello: I see that under your signature you claim to have "re-badged" the 1993 300E to an E320. Can you explain how the trunk emblem was "blended" in to the paint, as the 300E emblem is larger and wider than the E320? By know you should have guessed I am a 93' 300E owner and am looking to "re-badge" mine as well!! Any suggestions highly aprreciated! Andrew in Orlando, FL

I had a body shop do the "rebadging" for me when I had my car in to have the front and rear bumpers repainted.
Our cars have a black impact strip in the center of the bumpers, whereas '94-'95 W124's have bumpers that are completely painted. Anyway, the "300E" emblem can be removed with dental floss. The letters are simply glued onto the trunk. I purchased a new "E320" badge from the dealer, and it simply sticks on. You can't tell the badge was changed as the paint had not faded at all. FWIW, if I was going to do this again, I might have badged it as a "320E", as they were badged this way in Europe, Asia, and Australia. |

Crazy.
In the U.S., the '92 and '93 W140's were badged the same as Australia. Your 1993 300E with the 2.8 liter M104 engine were badged as 300E's. Our 1993 300E with the 2.8 liter M104 engine were badged as 300E 2.8. If my car was badged 300E 3.2 (following the example of the 300E 2.8), or 320E (like the rest of the world), then I would have left it alone. |
