engine mounts - How do I??

Hi friends,

How do I determine if my engine mounts are defect or not? I suspect that they are in poor condition but would like to trouble-shoot them.

Today I also changed the distributor cap and the rotor as well as the ignition cables and it really improved the idle stumble that I had. The engine also feels more responsive so it will be interesting to see if it helps the fuel consumption as well.

Many thanks,

If your mounts are original, trust me they are shot. Mine were at least 1 inch shorter than the new ones I replaced them with. One way to see how bad they are is to look at your fan and shroud. My shroud had been adjusted to the bottom and the fan was still closer to the bottom instead of centered in the opening.

The Star, the MB club magazine, has an article last Fall on how to replace them.

I must admit (with an embaressed, sheepish grin on my face) that I havenīt heard about the star magazine. Can I find the article online or?

As far as I know the mounts are the original oneīs. I changed all of the front end rubber except the engine mount and Iīm still not quite happy with how the car drives. I also changed most of the rod ends in the front but still have a couple left which iīll get to eventually.

Many thanks for Your help.

Mikael

Sept Oct 2003 p 86 tells how to replace on 124s. I looked on mbca.org and could not see the article only an index. Sometimes repair shop have the magazine of the club.

Mikael, The Star is the offical club magazine for the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. Motor mounts are cheap and if your's are original, it certainly wouldn't hurt to replace them.
