Water pump seems to be leaking from the lower bolt towards the back. Is this just a seal or gasket problem? Even if it is, will it be just as well that I replace the water pump? The car has 167K miles.

Performance Products in Van Nuys sells a rebuilt one for $94. Anybody out there who has tried a rebuilt one? Also, would appreciate removal and replacement tips. Thanx.

Remember, we sell parts. We will give you a quote if you will use the partsshop. I have replaced many. It is a difficult job on the 2.6 if you don't have the special tools needed. With the tools, about 2-3 hours is normal.

My 92 190e had a similar leak that "appeared" to be coming from where the pump attaches to the block. Underneath where it couldn't be seen very well.

It was, in fact, coming from the weeper hole on the underside of the pump (close to the pulley).

To make a long story short, I replaced the pump.

Donnie,

You can do a 2.6 waterpump in 2-3 hours?

My mechanic charged me 9 hours (book labor)? And, the pump was $350?

I got took didn't I??

About a yr. ago, I paid $100.00 for a new pump at an MB dealer. I'd say you got fried on the pump. 9 hrs. labor for a water pump is nothing short of ridiculous for someone who does this 40 hrs. a week, yr. in and yr. out. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the input. Much Appreciated. I don't mind sweating a little bit and yes, we do learn more about our cars that way.

Benzmac, I will send a request in. As for tools, it looks like a tight squeeze to get to the allen bolt. The hex-head is accessible with a ratchet extender. What else will I need?
