My coolant light is coming on. First dimly and then more bright as I drive. It is not consistent though. It does not happen everyday. The level is good. I searched this topic and still have a few questions.
1) What causes my light to come on? I know low level , but does the coolant have to be a 50-50 mix to come on? Steve said something like that. Does my model have that type of operation? 2)Where is the sensor? How do I get at it? Is it on the side of the reservoir or do I have to open the reservoir cap? What color is it? Can I simply try to pull out and clean up and then put back? 3) What is the going rate for the new sensor? Thanks! ------------------ '89 420 SEL '90 300 SEL '68 Olds 88 Convertible '84 300 SD (sold it) |

i think I answered my own question. looked at the reservior and the one prong of the plug somehow broke off. when i pulled the plug the metal piece was stuck inside the black plug. Ummm must be corrosion??

I need both the female connection (connected to the reservior) and the male (the black plug) because one of the teeth broke off and is stuck in the plug.
What are these 2 things called and to replace the black plug do I just splice a new plug in its place? ------------------ '89 420 SEL '90 300 SEL '68 Olds 88 Convertible '84 300 SD (sold it) |

Can't answer that question for you - dealer can, but wanted to pipe up here as I've just had this replaced. This sensor corrodes over time (this is apparently normal) and what you're seeing in the light is the fluid working as a bridge. That's why it starts dim, works without regularity, etc. Replacement of this at my tech was $24 all-told (p&l). FYI
