i adjusted tne valves today.
while the camshaft cover was off i checked the timing mark on the compensator washer in front of the engine (just behind the chain).it coincides with the mark at the 3 o'clock on the engine. however the mark on the crankshaft ( on the vibratin balancer) shows 5 degrees before TDC.this means 5 degrees before the cranshaft mark comes to "OT". does this mean that my chain needs to be changed??? the mark was the same 35000 km ago??? and if i change the timing chain ,do i have to renew the chain tensionor spring too. any help would be appreciated. the car has 252000km on it and runs perfectly. thanks |

As the chain wears, the timing marks on the crankshaft damper get later because the crank has to turn farther to make the camshaft marks line up. It sounds like your chain may have jumped a tooth. Have you checked the injection pump timing?

what you said could be right but read again......5 degrees BEFORE TDC not after TDC......IF IT WAS AFTER I WOULD SAY THE CHAIN ELONGATED BUT BEFORE?????
