Third brake light repair
hello everyone -
i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to replace the third (high-mounted) brake light on my 1992 400E. i see what appears to be clips on either side of the housing, but can't figure out how to get it unhooked. i also don't want to break the thing while trying to do this seemingly simple repair. thanks in advance for your help. |
There are two ridged tabs on each side of the housing. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to GENTLY pry outward....and probably another screwdriver jammed at the top or side to coax the two sections apart.
The sections will seperate dramatically (as if you broke it). I've had to replace the bulb twice, and the only surface damage is the slight distortion of the mated section where I twisted the screwdriver at the top to get the sections to seperate. I'll have to admit, it's one of the crappiest parts in the whole car... ... I expected something more elegant from MB. |
Anybody have any idea where you buy a replacement housing for an 89 300 station wagon?
'Thanks. |
thanks for the info. that is what i started to do, but felt such resistance from the clips that i didn't want to proceed any further for fear i'd snap them off.
i will give it another try - anything to shut off the dash warning light. thanks again |
Release the 2 side tabs and slide the cover off ... from there it's obvious how to remove/replace the brake lamp.
