I performed the modification, suggested by JimF's website, on my car and it has helped keep this big engine cooler! I don't mind the "whooshing" sound of the fan clutch engaging because I know I won't have to replace the hood pad and other heat-sensitive items soon. The temperature on the gage now hovers at 80-85C while sitting at a stoplight instead of climbing towards 100C with the aux fans kicking in. This is a great idea since the fan clutch is off-center from the car and is also further hindered by the radiator and auxiliary fans; reducing cooler air to be drawn into the engine compartment.

Thanks for this great forum. ;)

Hello Boudreaux,

What modification are you talking about? Is this the replacement of the visco
by the tropical version? Can you tell where we can find this article?
Needless to say I'm interested as are some others...
Greetings,

Danny

***** Hoi! ****

Refer to this website by forum member "JimF". This modification "fools" the bimetallic strip on the viscous fan clutch to engage the fan at a lower temperature. These huge V8 engines generate so much heat that I would open the hood when I got home in an effort to cool down the engine. I had to replace the injection wire harness and foam hood pad because of the heat damage caused by the high temperatures.
