Can the rear defrost grid be repaired?
I have an '82 300CD, and about 50% of the rear defrost grid does not defrost. Has anyone been sucessful in repairing their grid? I am planning on replacing the rear seal, but I don't really want to put the same window back in with the defrost not working right. On the other hand, I *certainly* don't want to spend $900 on a new window, and I fear that any used windows I find will be in the same condition as mine.
Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Check with your local auto supply stores.
I believe there are kits available to repair a grid.

After you get the kit, the tough part is finding the breaks. I once had to repair four lines on a back window. First, you mark which lines aren't defrosting. You may have to do this by fogging with your breath. Then with a strong light from the back side look for fine hairline breaks.
I understand this can also be done with a voltmeter, though I forget the exact procedure.

I have run into windows in the past where the grid was laminated into the glass and not accessible for repair. I assume this isn't the case with Mercedes, and the grid is on the inside of the glass?
I have looked for the repair kits before with no luck. Do certain stores stock them better than others? Thanks again.

pep boys has that repair kit. it's basically around 5 bucks or so. i bought it once. small bottle with brownish liquid, an applier and a small paper that you can use to align the liqid over the broken parts. this liquid is basically a metal conductor, and allows conductivity at areas where the original defrost lines have been broken. easy diy. took me a minute to put it on and leave it there. it's been working ever since.

Aren't most all MB defrost grids embedded in the glass??
