While changing the serp. belt on the '95 E320 I just unscrewed the three little screws holding the fan to the fan clutch mechanism to remove the fan for clearance. I noticed what look like a spring type of clip in the center section of the fan clutch assy. It had an arrow indicating a direction - for removal I assume. It was approximately 13 mm wide and about 50 mm long and you could see where some "tabs" were bent down and being held down at both ends. What is this for and what tool do I need to hold the fan clutch while removing? Part number and description and some instructions on how to use would be appreciated.
thanks,
engatwork

You went about this the HARD way. The fan and clutch assembly will come out together if you remove the 8mm allen head bolt that goes down the center. The spring is the bimetal that turns on the fan. Do not tamper with this. It is an expensive part!!

thanks Benzman - do you know right off hand the p/n for the tool to hold the fan from turning when removing the 8 mm? Has Partsshop got it? Where am I supposed to put it to hold the fan steady?
thanks
