Mercedes 16-Valve Idle Issues...

Well, tried doing a search, but it seems idle issues are car specific. So, here's my question:

The idle on my '86 16-Valve is fast, around 1400-1500 rpm when warm. When the AC compressor is on, its around 1000. Is this normal?

How can I fix this strange idle issue? I chacked my OPV, all seems fine. It idles fine when cold, with the AC compressor on, but too fast normally. What gives? Thanks!

The KE Jetronic fuel system is shared with most models of the 16V era, and all tend to suffer from the same common problems.

Check out this active thread:

Checking out the microswitch, TPS, and cleaning/adjustment/lubrication of the throttle linkage before you dive deeper into the KE system will correct most idle speed problems IMO, and they are simple tasks that shouldn't take too much time or risk screwing anything up.

"Adjusting the linkage" does not include altering the throttle stop adjustment!

I'm wondering: I was trying to reduce the idle speed on my 16v this w/e. I was playing with various bits ands pieces and then noticed what apprared to be a throttle stop underneath the main throttle switch gear, it is directly underneath the bulk of the throttle connections and has a large threaded rod attached to it.

I wound the screw out a couple of turns and the idle speed reduced to a smooth 950rpm (warm engine). However, the next day the car wont hold an idle at all.....does this sound like I have adjusted the throttle stop and if so why is this so bad? (apart from the obvios that my idle is non-existent!)

Many thanks for any pointers and while we are here any other methods of reducing idle speed? I have: lubed throttle linkage, cleaned air filter, re-gapped and cleaned plugs, new rotor cap and arm and other suggestions?

many thanks

Did you test function and connections for the TPS and microswitch?

I've probably written it up a half dozen times. How about trying a search.
