98 C280 w/64K, Bad Airbag?

SRS light came on the other day so I took the car in and was told that one of the airbags (the car has 4) was bad. Are airbags covered under the full StarMark Warranty.

Ok it's a side airbag, Part# 170-860-04-05 the dealer wants to just shotgun the part at the car and could not tell me if it was a sensor (cover'ed by StarMark), the control module (cover'ed by StarMark) or the airbag it self (NOT cover'ed).

On the early 202s (94-96) you could damage the SRS module by jumping the battery. The fix was an updated SRS module. Having said that you can probably eliminate module from that list since your car has the newer version. Has anybody worked on that particular door recently? It might just be disconnected.

Bump

I'm going to pull the drivers door panel today and check the connection in there today.

vinamg stated, "On the early 202s (94-96) you could damage the SRS module by jumping the battery." Just curious, is there a way to jump the battery without risking SRS damage?

Thanks, Dan

Thanks, Dan

I used to own an auto electronics shop, and if you boosted a car, you had to pack your tools and never come back. Ever.

Most modern cars have fragile computers that can be fried by jump starting. We often had cars with dead batteries, and we would charge the battery, then start the car. It takes time, and it's a pain compared to jump starting, but how painful is a $2000 module of some kind? The slower the charge rate, the better.

Thanks for the info. I'll certainly reach for the charger if I ever encounter a dead battry.

if they can't diagnose the vehicle properly (which is pretty stupid in this day and age), then they should shotgun the warranty parts at their expense before dipping into your pockets.

they don't seem to know any better than we do which part is causing the fault
