1995 W202 Headlight Lens Replacement
Does anyone know how to remove the headlight lenses on a 1995 C36 (or any 95 W202)? I'm having trouble accessing one final screw that goes into the headlight lens frame. Do I have to disassemble the entire front end of this car just to replace a damn lens?? PLEASE HELP!!

Not sure about a phillips head srew coming in from behind but I did finally get the lenses replaced. Apparently, the lenses are so difficult to replace because they were not intended to be replaceable in the 1995 W202, only the entire headlight assembly was designed for replacement (how convenient).
Given that design, it was necessary for me to remove the cross-member upon which the radiator is hung and the hood latches when closed. From there, it was necessary for me to remove the inner grill and a piece of delicate trim on each side. Then it was off to removing four bolts that hold each headlight assembly, then the trim piece under the headlight, then the headlight wiper motor from the assembly then unclip the lenses. Sounds basic but it was not rudimentary work. If anyone is challenged with this project in the future, feel free to drop me an e-mail. Drags |

Hey nice work. I've got a 1997 C230 and had to replace the left and right headlight lenses. Maybe mine's different, but it was really not that difficulut. If I remember correctly, on the right side, I got all the screws out so the whole assembly was essentially free from the car. Poping the clips that hold on the lenses is the key to this job. While the assembly is free from the car, this is quite easy. On the left side, though, there was at least one screw that I just could not find. While I could move the assembly around a bit, it was not all the way free from the car. It made poping the clips harder but doable. I did not have to take apart all the other things that you mentioned. I'm sure you did it the right way, but my rig job was easy and it worked just fine.

Thanks for the info, Michael.
It's my understanding that the 97 lenses are held in place with metal clips and can be removed without taking out the entire headlight assembly (or at least every single screw holding the assembly in place), is that true? Do you have headlight wipers on your car? Don't think the 97s came with wipers. That made things a bunch more difficult for me. Check out this thread - very useful (for newer W202s, not mine) http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1051&highlight=headlight+lens |
