If you want to be able to quickly and easily use the information on a MB Service Library CD, you might want to use one of my Indexes.

You can find one here. Available for the following Models: 107, 116, 123, 124, and 126.

My Indexes work with any PC, Mac, Linux or Unix operating system - in fact, anything that uses html. After you download and unZip the file, read the simple instructions in the ReadMe file.

I've delt with this particular issue quite a bit. Its actually hard to figure out if its Adobe's problem or someone elses. In case you care it most often occurs when the PDF was generated by another program as opposed to Acrobat.
So either
a) Adobe screwed up when the made AR6
b) Other companies are making PDF files that don't conform to the PDF format properly.
Dakota -

I have just downloaded your indexing system. I have not tried it yet, but I have to say one thing - just the idea of trying this, and the work you have put into this, deserves much praise!

I am looking forward to using it. Thanks so much!

Hey Dakota,

Whatzup? Your web site does not seem to be up. I was trying to revisit the download (the index files were missing from the zip file or something of the sort), and now my browser does not see your site.

Just a heads up (or down?...)

-HB

hbofinger,

We had a pretty good electrical show in the sky last night, so I turned my computer off about midnight. I turned it back on this morning, but forgot to activate my Apache server. As soon as I get home this afternoon, it should be up and running (about 5pm).

That's a pretty funny conincidence...

I am in Washington, D.C., on the other side of the country, and we had a pretty good thunderstorm here last night too, and my dsl went South (I'm on a dial-up right now).

:p

An even stranger coincidence...

My brother-in-law in Washington D.C. got hit by lightning in that storm last night and was rescued with CPR from a passerby. He's in the hospital recuperating. They still have to check him out internally.

Kestas -

Where was he?

I heard one that came down - when you have a bang and a lightning at the same time, at enormous volume, you know it struck very, very close. This was only the third time in my life I have heard somthing like this. I heard sirens a little later, but not immidiately.

He works at the Pentagon, though I don't know if that means he works in the building itself. I only got sketchy details. He was walking to his car from work where there are large trees when he was struck. I'm guessing the bulk of the lightning hit the tree and one of the arcs branched off along the ground and struck him. I don't think chances are good for surviving a direct hit. His shoes and clothes were shredded.

Edit/Update:
I got more details. My brother-in-law was walking from the State Department past the Lincoln Memorial when he got struck. The lightning bolt entered his hip, and branched off exiting his shoulder and foot. He was on fire and people had to extinguish the flames. It was a Secret Service Agent that came to his rescue. His hair melted. One eardrum is punctured, the other one is damaged. He should recover from this. He'll be out of the hospital this evening. Other than maybe his ears, he should make a full recovery. Reporters from one of the local papers came to interview him and take pictures of him and the clothes he wore. I'm curious which paper that could be so I could look it up on the web.

Kestas,

Sorry I am slow to respond - my DSL is still down, so I am using dial-up.

I saw the story in the Post and knew it was him. The reason why I was so curious where he was at is because I'm certain I heard the bolt come down - you know when something is less than a mile away or so when you hear the thunder and see the bolt at the same time - it's usually shockingly loud and rather scary. We live right behind the Capitol on the Hill, close enough to the mall.

I am glad he is going to make it - what a trooper! They had his picture in paper, recovering. Very radient. Also picture of the sorry remains of his shoes!

Dakota - The site still does not seem to be up - I was trying to download. Do you need to boot up?

Cheers,

HB

Good morning HB,

They changed my "psuedo-static" IP last night, which they do every 4 or 5 months. It should be working now. Thanks for informing me.

Let me know if you have any more trouble.

Dakota - thanks, got it.

Even though I went with static IP on Earthlink (or pseudo-static, as I have also come to realize), I've given up hosting at home - with a DSL line, the upload speeds are just too slow. I use a cheap but good hosting serivce for my low-bandwitdth stuff (I am not kidding you - $8 a year at hostwalk.com!), and then I have a high bandwidth service that allows multiple domains for my picture-intensive stuff. I put pictorals there (I just did the expansion valve on the 560 SEL)
