really really really dumb question
how do i get the mercedes cd to work.
i have a copy of the 124 cd but i dont know how to make it work. i put it in the drive and i get several selections to choose (open using ......insert name of program here; windows media player, i tunes (i tunes for fuxsakes!!!) inter video, etc etc etc) if i click on start, my computer, drive f etc then it runs but only some of it (images but not text) shows and it says i need a plug in. if i click on that, with netscape it takes me to a plug in finder and i have to choose one. with IE it says i need one and i can find it on the cd. i just want the damned thing to run so i can use it. i tried it with netscape and with IE. i downloaded adobe and its still acting up. this is very frustrating as my car is dead right now. (300e 2.6 not starting!) can someone please help me before i junk an otherwise great car. TIA

MB CD
My copy utilizes an older version of Acrobat Reader. The correct version should be in a AR folder on disk one.
If you install it, I think it will run the CD without a problem. At least this is what worked for me. If it's any consolation, it took me a while. I assumed that because I had AR already I didn't need to do anyting else. |

i knew i already had it on my computer as well. i just downloaded a version just in case the disk looked for it only in a certain place or something.
i will do as you suggest. hopefully it will resolve this. thank you.

Let Me know
Let me know how it turns out.
The version that worked for me is AR 3.01. 5.0 didn't. I had assumed newer versions always worked with older documents. I'm not sure what the idiosyncrasy is with the MB CD. |

This is one thing that has driven me absolutely nuts about the CD.
I now have it copied down completely to its own directory on my computer. I look up the page number in Internet Explorer, and then use Acrobat 6.0 to manually open up the page. Arrghhhh!

you're having this prob. because acrobat reader is not registered as the default program to open up your .pdf files.
in order to do that, when you get the option of which program you want to choose, you should choose acrobat reader instead of the other options that you listed. seems like you already chose internet explorer as the default hence opening the pages up in IE. is that what happens now when you click on the file or do you still get a list of programs ? easily fixed. let me know where u're at.

I usually open acrobat reader and from windows explorer drag and drop the file onto AR. I use version 6 and it works for me.

Problem is more complex. Won't go into it right now - well, maybe just a little bit - issue is that .pdf files default to the latest version of AR (6.0 or something like that), and the CD does not like that (it likes the older version). So if you have a newer version, it wants to install the older version, and then you file association revert to that (not good). Next comes the problem that IE 6.whatever and AR 6.whothehellcares don't get along as well as they should (maybe because of the Norton Anti-everything-nothing-works), and then your machine hangs forever as the object relationship beween IE and AR is being worked out. At least this is happening in XP. Of course you need the IE because the indexing (those pretty little dots with the topic names next to them) is done in html. Ah - the world we live in....!

You can resolve most AR6 IE6 issues by turning off PDF display in web browser. Neat feature, but it causes more problems than anything else.

AR 3.01 vs 6.0
I now have both versions on my computer. I think 3.01 is indeed now the default version, which works fine when I want to use my MB CD.
If a .pdf document won't open correctly in 3.01, I close it, open 5.0 & reopen the document. It hasn't been a problem for me to do it this way. |

You can remove most avionics errors on an airplane but just hitting the avionic master switch - neat toys, but you should be able to pilot by dead reconing anyhow. This industry STINKS, an I am so so tired of it.... (I am sorry, I am German, and originally from Stuttgart. I believe that if you build it, it should work, otherwise don't sell it. But I must admit, at 38, I am a Dinosaur...)

I have XP and AR6.1 on my laptop. Works good, except on opening the first work section, it lags while all the AR BS loads. Once that is done it works fine.
Just now I started the program to see how long it took, once it loaded I got an update message for AR6.2. Took a chance and downloaded it. Now the book section open straight away. ON my home system I had to dump AR5 and reinstall AR3 to keep my MB CDs operating.

Mike,
AR works fine standalone. I have no problem there. I am talking about AR as a browser object. How are you using it? By the way, how did you get AR 6.2 - I just checked the site, and they are still on 6.0.shouldafixeditthefirsttime.

When I use the CD's I don't use the normal star/run thing, I go into the pogram folder and open the particular chassis manual I need. Thast way I don't have to listen to the sound clip or watch the video...I jump right into the job index. When I open the first job AR launches.
I don't have my laptop with me here in California so I can't verify which version I upgraded to last night...it might be 6.0.2 but I thought I saw it was 6.2. I'll check next week when I get back to Michigan. The upgrade was found during AR's automatic search for upgrades/updates.
