722.6 Transmission Question

Is it possible that shift solenoid valve is plugged up with contamination?

The resistance on solenoids looks good.

Is it possible to check if solenoid is plugged up or not working properly?

Thank you

mbdoc 06-10-2004 05:39 PM

Yes it is possible for the resistance to be correct & the solenoid not to operate!

M.B.DOC

How can I test the solenoid to make sure it is good?

Thank you

mbdoc 06-10-2004 05:50 PM

connect power & ground for a second or two & see if the pintle opens.

What is wrong with the trans OR what code are you getting?

Most of the solenoids are in-expensive. 4 of the 6 are less than $35.

I did the power thing and they all klick, like they are working.

I did get the codes 0715 and 0720

I changed the conductor plate and checked the ohms on the connector plug and they are all ok.

The transmission does not shift to higher gear, I can go 50 miles per hour and rpm over 5000 and nothing happens , it feels like it wants to shift.

All this happened when I pressed the gas pedal harder and wanted to start driving faster

Have you had the codes in the trans computer checked?? IF you only erase the engine codes from ODB2, the trans will still have shifting problems until you erase the codes in the trans computer!

I am going to the stealership this morning I will let you know abiut the codes.

Thank you again

Update

Partial success, the car is driving again.

I am attaching the code sheet .

When driving in S MODE it has very hard shift form 1-st to 2-nd and when comming to a complete stop there is a big bang like the transmission disengages from 1-st gear, after the car is at a stop.
Also it does not shift into 5-th gear .

Dealer tells me that the clutches may be worn, but there was no debries of any kind in the pan before they flashed it and changed the oil, is it possible only 18k miles?

Is it possible that the 1-2/4-5 shift solenoid valve has a problem (only my idea(?

Thank you again

mbdoc 06-11-2004 05:11 PM

The code 13 (intermittant 109) WAS probably the problem! You need to readapt the trans by driving VERY slow. You must let the trans up shift thru all gears 1st to 5th (2 times) & back to stop keeping the RPM below 1950 RPM & then letting the engine idle for 10 minutes.

If the harsh shifting is still there then TRANS codes need to be read again assuming they erased those previous codes!

The car will not shift to 5-th gear at all, I was going about 88 miles per hour but rpm went up to 3500rpm.

Is it possible that the 1-2/4-5 shift solenoid valve has a mechanical problem,as the resistance shows as good?

Thank you

Update

I removed the valve body and solenoids, I checked them for resistance and also for mechanical operation, they all seem to be good.

I still get the hard shift from 1-st to 2-nd.

I am not sure about the 5-th gear, I don't feel it.

The rpm are as follows:

60mph - 2400rpm
70mph - 2800rpm
80mph - 3200rpm

Is it normal or am I driving in the 4-th gear only?

Thanks again

M.B.DOC I appreciate your help

I tried to drive the car several times as you suggested, but the hard shifting is still there and I do not feel the 5-th gear also.

Dealer wants to do diagnostisc and read the adaptation values, they say it would be 2-3hrs ($110 per hr incl taxes) and if I want they can do the transmission oil pressure test, 1.5 hrs.

If I go again to the dealer for diagnostics which ones should I ask for and how much time should it take.?

Does it sound like mechanical or electronic problem with my transmission.?

Thank you again for your help

I am planning to go back to get the codes read again and also the adaptives read and to reset them.

How much time should I pay for at the dealer?

Should I ask them to do anything alse while I am there or any other sugestions?

What kind of information would you like me to bring from the dealer?

Thank you again for your help.

$$$ diagnostic charges are upto each & every shop.
WE always charge at least 1 hour for diagnostics. RE-adapting a transmission takes approx 45-60 minutes as well.

Make sure that when the SHIFTER is D that their scan tool shows that on live data, as well as every other position.

I would think that there might be a independant in your area that has scan equiptment that can also read those codes as well as live data.

Reading CLUTCH adaptation figures will tell if the trans is still in good shape.

Here there is no independent besides the dealer , that can
dignose the transmission, I am out of luck, but dealer has no competition.

I will probably go on friday to have the diagnostisc done and ask for all the printouts of codes and adaptation values.

For now I drive in W mode (2-nd to 4-th gear)

I will report as soon as I have the news.

Thank you again
