1988 190 E 2.3 starting hard & door locks

I have an '88 190 E that you have to turn the engine over 5 -7 times repeatedly each morning to start, but once it's running, it's fine. It just seems to be a cold starter even when it's not cold. When it does start you have to slowly give it gas or it will stall out. Once it's running for a minute or so, it's fine. Any suggestions???

Second issue, (maybe related, but probably not), I have 2 1988 190 Es so I'm familair with how they are supposed to work. The problem is: on my newest one that when we lock the driver's door with the key, the other 3 doors and trunk lid don't lock, you have to do it manually and I know they should lock together. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ken

Ken,

Do a search on the OVP relay (overvoltage protection relay), probably your problem for hard starting.

Sounds as if your vacuum unit under the rear seat has failed or lost power? Check that out for the locks.

If you hear the air pump under the seat it's probably just a break in the vacuum system, difficult to track down, but easy to fix.

Tinker and xp,

Thanks for the response and the help. I'm a rookie so I have some rookie questions: First - where is the OVP located? (for the hard starting problem and can I just swap it one?) and second, do I have to pull the back seat out to get to the vacuum unit, is it on the driver's side or the passenger side and can I swap it out as well?

Thanks again gents. I love these 190's.

Ken
