85 190E Worth Buying?

A fellow nearby has a 1985 190E with 112k for $3,800. The only things I could find wrong were the antenna and cruise not working. Some of the metal hoses didn't seem to be connected properly. Also seemed somewhat loud for a gas engine. Almost like my 240d.

Does this model have any notorious problems?

$3800 seems too expensive.

Keep looking, you should be able to find a newer W201, even a 2.6L in the same or better condition for that price point.

From that period, the W201 has known issues with valve seals hardening and cracking, the climate control system is also a high service item, radiators have plastic necks that tend to crack. The timing chain and it's tensioner and the serpentine belt tensioner should be checked. At this age, the rubber parts in the suspension and drivetrain are probably in need of service/replacement.

For a little more money you should be
able to get a newer and nicer 2.6

The head gaskets like to blow. I think
your 240D may be more reliable. The
2.6 is a sweet smooth engine though.
