w126 front brake pad replacements

Anyone know where I can find info on R&R the front brake pads on a w126 in the MB Service CD manual? I looked and am probably blind. If its not there... how hard is it to do this job for a beginning DIY'er? I did a search.. but the directions given seemed incomplete, atleast it did to me. Im lost

Job 42-0260 says it's job 42-0160 but 42-0160 is not to be found in the W126 CD manual set.

In a pinch, the W123 procedure is good enough - http://skinnerbox.steaky.org/123_DISK2/program/123-cd-index.html

Snibble, if it makes you feel any better, my 126 front brakes were the eaiest brake job I've EVER done on ANY car I've worked on. They are about as straight forward as it gets!

NO 'gotchas' anywhere. Only problem I had was that the aftermarket pads I installed were slightly too thick and I had to sand them down about 1/16" (but obviously, this was not the fault of the 126 brake system.

sixto thanks for the link.. your help is always appreciated.

ckr42... thanks for the confidence booster. Any special tools used? After setting the car on jack stands, and removing the wheel... anything special?

Here's a link to an article frequently referenced for 123/126 brake work. Even tho it's for a W124, it's VERY close to what you'd be seeing.

Here's a good thread to read for maybe a little more info. There's others. Just search

It's a piece of cake.

Jack up the car, take off the wheel, remove the pins holding the brake pads. Take the brake pads out and, using a screwdriver or large slip joint pliars, push the pistons into the caliper body. Put in the new pads, replace the pins and the anti-rattle spring. Do the same to the other side, go easy on the pads for a couple of hundred miles and enjoy.

Don't forget to pump the brakes before driving the car and make sure no brake fluid came out of the master cylinder reservoir.

Observe all saftey precautions.

Old post - new info:

One of the best W126 "turn key" front brake write-ups I've seen:

http://www.*********.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4703&highlight=Brake

Replace the blotted out part with 5 0 0 e b o a r d

Remove spaces.
