I was taking the head off my '88 300E today. Everything was going pretty well until I tried to remove the three bolts holding the camshaft sprocket to the camshaft. A 4 MM Allen socket is too small and a 5MM is too big. I found a 4.5 MM L shaped Allen wrench, and found it to be slightly too large. To aggravate the situation, these bolts seem to be VERY tight.
Is this an odd size? Any suggestions. Thanks for any help you can offer, ------------------ Larry Bible '01 C Class, Six Speed '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |
I have only found them to be torqx head bolts. I think all of them are supposed to be the t35 or t40.

Benzmac,
Thanks, I will look a little closer. Take care, Larry |
Larry, when you get the correct torx socket, put it into the end of each bolt and give each one a brisk tap with a hammer. Had the same problem with mine. Heat and time are the culprits.
