i adjusted tne valves today.
there is a 5 degree difference between the tdc on the cam and tdc on the crankshaft balancing wheel.
is it too much.
it has been the same for the last 22000 miles.
also, do i HAVE to renew the chain tensioner ???
thanks

Yes, it is time for a new chain. Tensioner might be OK if it is keeping the old chain tight. Take it apart to reset it and see if the ratchet action works OK.

Why go to the trouble of replacing the chain and not the tensioner? They cost about $50. I did mine both my 1977 240Dat 168k miles, thern adjusted the valves. Made a world of difference to sound and power.

Tensioner now $135 from parts shop, more from dealer. Why replace something if its OK?
