Oil change interval question
I have a 96 W210 with 145,000 miles. I average about 1200 miles per month (mostly highway miles).
Is it ok to use mobile 1 10W-30? Also, can I change every 7500 miles instead of every 3000 miles? Reason I ask is that I read on Mobile 1's website that you can change at the manufacturer's recommended interval which I think is 7500 for this model. Thank you in advance. |
Do a search, this topic has been discussed to death. Use the oil weight your manual recomends. I believe 10w-30 is to light.

That inline 6 is a hot running engine too. 10W-30 is too thin for it IMHO.
|
I am leaning toward 15W-40 at this time.
Can I change the oil every 7000 miles if I use synthetic or is this too long of an interval? |
See: http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html for approved oil.
If your going to use Mobil 1, 15w-50 or 0w-40 weights should be used. YES, you can change the oil every 7500 miles instead of every 3000 miles. I would change the oil sooner though (3,750) for the first change or two if this is the first time synthetic oil has been used in your engine. Chris |
I second the thicker oil weight. Also, since you are driving what would be considered "ideal conditions", then go with the 7500 mile interval.

I second doing a search.

thanks everyone for your advice,
so much info on oil here and many opinions about it. Going to use the 10W-40 synthetic and change it 5,000 then 7,500 intervals. |
Where/what brand did you find a synthetic 10W-40?
|
sorry, I meant 0W-40 Mobil 1
|
Mobil 1 forever..
there you go... , I do 5K between oil changes using Mobil 1
