126/Could it be the Fuel Pump ?

Looking for some guidance narrowing down the source of this new intermittent- at Idle- hesitation, roughness and sometimes stalling with my 103 engine/300SE. I have read many posts but still feel I could use some advise ruling out some of these scenarios.
What I have (and Haven't) done to try and solve my problem...
Pulled and regapped spark plugs. No carbon buildup there.very clean.
Cleaned ICV - Pulled the electrical plug, the rpm's dropped, so I believe this is good. The breather hoses are good.
Removed and cleaned Fuel Pump - It was not dirty.
Used a can of Injector cleaner.
Replaced Fuel Filter.
Pulled Fuel pressure relay - and had a tech look at the solder points under a big magnifier. they look good.I realize this is not conclusive about the relay but I did not know how to test otherwise.
For several days I drove with pins #15/87 bridged.
the problem did not manifest itself. Nor did it for several days after returning the fuel pressure relay to its place.
This will happen once the car is up to temperature but on the other hand there is no cold start or hot restart problem at all - engine will fire right up. Since I am the one driving I cannot tell if there is any black smoke rising from the back ( read about that in a couple posts ).
This morning this happened at a light after only about ten minutes of driving. I did get through by putting my foot down( on the gas.ha ha) while braking at the same time. Stumbling acceleration
got me out of a possible bind. I did however pull over, walk around the back of the car and was in the presence of very strong gas fumes. I also opened the gas tank cap - there was no hissing sound when I removed the cap - No pressure. I want to think that it is related but am not sure if I am right.
I am assuming this is a fuel pressure issue.Any clues based on this lengthly post? Could it still be the pump ?
TIA
