I have 1989 260E, 130K miles that (only on days when temp is above 60 degrees, or when raining) the engine baubles and hesitates badly for about the first 5 minutes. Afetr that fine for the rest fo the day. In the last year, I have replaced both fuel pumps, all the injectors, new plugs, wires, fuel filter and it still does it.

I have been told to start replacing parts one at a time, but that is going toget REAAAALLY expensive. Dealer told me to start with the O2 sensor, then the fuel distributor. There must be a better way to diagnose this!

Also, my SRS light goes on (religiously!) after driving for more than an hour or so. When cold or in town, no light....just on long highway drives. Any idea on what may be causing this?

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Running problem sounds like secondary ignition problem, ie; coil, dist cap, rotor, or wire breakdown.
The SRS system can be diagnosed with code reader for faults, most likely faults are charging system & steering wheel contacts.

I would also check the overvoltage protection relay. This relay can cause a ton of driveability troubles along with mysterious SRS or ABS lights to come on.

For the record, my guess is the steering wheel contacts.

Thanks for all the help! Damn shame that MB doesn't help their customers the way other MB owners do!

my '89 300se does that also.
the light will flicker and sometimes stay on
only on very long drives (6+hrs.)
and no light with daily use.
overcharge relay sounds interesting
desides the contacts.

Before you get a new over-voltage relay for SRS lamp you should know that it doesn't supply power to the SRS system. It does supply the ABS system.

To fiver64- I've worked for MB dealers for almost 30 years & always helped MB owners.
