92 400E oil pump drive chain...change it???
Hey guys...just finishing up the timing chain job on my 92 400E. I went the long way around and decided to pull the timing cover off. I changed all the rails, tensioner, chain, seals, gaskets, etc. However....we are now putting it all back together and one of my techs noticed the oil pump drive chain is kinda loose. RIGHT NOW i have to make the decision of changing the chain (an $18 part) and pulling the timing cover back off or leaving it like it is. Anybody have any idea on how much play this chain should have?
ALSO...how does this oil pump chain guide/tensioner work??? It seems to just dangle there without any type of spring or tensioning device behind it. Am I missing something or is that how this thing is supposed to be??? Thanks in advance...Peter

If you can get to it cheaply, just change it, if it's only $18. Cheap piece of mind. I have never heard of one braking on any MB, maybe someone who knows more about the M119 can tell you more.

Change it
If it was me I would spend the $18.00 and change the oil pump chain. It is cheap insurance.
