I have a 126 series 300SEL. I want to jack up the car. I have a hydraulic jack and jack stands. Can I jack up the car using the lower control arm and then put the car on stands from the jack tubes?

Your vehicle should only be jacked by placing the hydraulic jack under the rear differential for the rear or the front cross member for the front.
