Advice on 1994 S600 coupe

Hi All
I spotted a 94-S600 coupe at a used MB/used car lot.
The coupe has 74.5k on the clock. The body is in excellent condition. There is not much owner history. The service records only up to 49k.I am not a DIY so I am sure this being a V12 is expensive to maintain. The dealer is asking $32500.
What are some problem area's that I should concern myself with?
How rare is this Coupe? Also the car looks GReat but I am afraid that these cars are very easy to make look great on the outside.
All advice and opinions will be considered.I am in no hurry to buy.
Happy driving.

the lack of records during the last twenty-thousand is problematic,

the car is not a highly prised in demand model, yes they are rare - initial price and maintaining may be responsible

and traffic jams in high heat possible in the Phily, Jersey area could be troublesome

inherent problems with the model, a good tech would know, but cooling problems on some of these engines in SL's - I have heard of

nice thing about the car is torque and engine cruising smooothness, though at the time (mid-nineties ) comparisons seem to feel the BMW 12 is smoother

and this car could be VERY pricey to maintain. ( if you don't work on the car for fun and don't wish to start learnig to do maintenance and purchase tools, it could be very pricey )

I would love a S600, but not purchaing new and not having a warranty, I'd probably buy a nice new watch

It seems to me that it sounds a little pricey. I'm not sure about the 600s, but a comparable 500 would be under $20k, and on a good day might be close to $10k.... (I'm sure the 600 is more, but not double...)

$$ to maintain. Expect to spend a few grand a year and with the V12 there's two of everything.

Two wiring harnesses- $2K each

Two engine management systems- another $2K each

Two fuel 'putes - a few grand each

Two air mass sensors, 4 cats, not to mention the expensive W140 door assist, pricey window regulators that die due to double pane glass, expensive A/C repairs...

and with a spotty service history? I'd pass.

95benzman-
Unless you have an unstoppable desire for the V12, I'd suggest the S500 version of the car. I have a '96 S500 coupe and am delighted with it. The performance difffences between the two aren't that great... and, and as others have noted, the S500 will cost less to maintain.
The price you were quoted is very high... I bought my '96 a little over a year ago with 75K on the odo for about $22K. Not sure where DaveL can buy one for $10K, but would like to know!
:-)
Wonderful cars, great looks, and very fast in the 5 liter trim...
My last recommendation is that you buy a '96 or newer... '96 was the year they significantly upgraded the car with digital engine controls, new transmission, etc. etc.
Hope this helps.

As commented before, mantaining a V-12 is like having to mantain two M104 engines at the same time, if not more expensive at certain elements.

Be ware of pre-1996 W/C140s!!! During 1996 and 1997 model years many mechanical things were improved, but if interested, I would go for a 98 or 99.

Still, A/C issues, certain electrical systems and the lack of a spotless maintenance record could be a nightmare on these cars.

A CL 500 is, for me, a much better proposition than a CL 600.

I am assuming this is a direct link to the vehicle in question.

Yes, that is the link. I will pass on this car. I am actually looking for a 91SEC But I am in no hurry. I have 3 MB"s and they are just great cars. Take care.
