Today I was quoted by a Bosch agent £2500 ($3750) for a ignition amplifier!! Having been resuscitated back to consciousness with the help of my wife some time later I reflected on my dilemma being, that the car wasn't worth much more than the one component I need!! Surely this cannot be right. Is there anyone out there who can help me find the right part at a terrestial price? The Mercedes part No. is 006 545 73 32. The Bosch part No. is 0227 400 656. Please? please? Help!!!!

The part number has changed many times & the latest number is 008-545-61-32. List price in the US is $1200. I assume the car wont start?
BOSCH list($2400.) is much higher than MB in the US.

That's 100% correct the car won't start and when it stalled in traffic recently there was no warning of a problem ie. misfire or hesitation prior to the failure. Is this typical?
Many thanks!

THEY set the prices, we can pay it or not drive our cars. I don't agree with this, but it happens. I would find one in a junk yard, or you can ask our partsshop how much one would cost. There might be an aftermarket solution. (I know there is for the early 190's)

Oh c'mon Mac - we all know you guys don't set the prices. I'm simply wondering if this is a big computer, a coil, some kind of battery or if it's filled with platinum or plutonium etc...

Or, is this just a simple part that mfgrs are gouging the consumer on?

If you look at the list prices from both MB & Bosch then you know they are charging for R & D, not true cost. Bosch(who makes the part for MB) & MB are over $1200 apart in list prices. ONLY big companies that have monopolies can do this!!

You'd think that a competitor would dive right into this space and make bucks...

Why is this thing so expensive? It sounds like some kind of ignition coil to me (aren't those amplifiers also)? I remember buying a coil for my bronco at about $40.
