My insurance company must be getting tired of me. This makes 300D number 3 that was smashed in another hit and run weekend before last. It was a 4X4 truck with a front crash bar that hit me (in the rear, knocked me into car in insurance) so of course, my car is now the remains of an '84 300D.

Now for a replacement. I have found 2 cars of interest.
1. '83 300SD, 190K miles, great paint, service records, Euro delivery with all the badges. New A/C parts. Needs seat spring, just general TLC. Runs well (candidate for valve adjustment).

2. '82 300TD. FULL service records, 160K documented, perfect navy blue leather (2 wrinkles on drivers seat), perfect paint, new A/C hoses, belts, etc.

I like the luxury of the SD, and the '82 123 didn't have all the luxuries of the later models.
Any advise from the pro's on which would be the better choice would DEFINITELY be appreciated! I'm ready to get out of Chevy and back into a BENZ!
Thanks, Robert

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate interaction with one of Dallas's many "moronus giganticus" drivers. It reminds me of why I don't miss traveling to "Big D" anymore.

Anyhow, I've had a 300SD and have a 300D of about the same vintage that you are considering.

From my point of view, I'd suggest the SD.
It's bigger, smoother, quieter and looks more up to date style wise. Many car critics think the 126 is one of the best styled cars ever. That bodystyle ran until '91.

You can't go wrong either way, mechanically, the have alot in common. Either one is a proven, durable ride.

Price may be a determining factor too. But, since you seem to be a careless driver magnet, bigger is better!

Good luck,

85 300D 158K
84 300SD 240K (sold)

this is the one you need to get - mount the AK47 on it.

A .50 Caliber mounted on the roof would be more effective. This means you must have a sunroof, so you can have easy access when needed.

I hope this doesn't send you on a "wild goose chase", but I saw a silver 123 car that looked good from the street for sale on 303 in Grand Prairie. If your interested in chasing it, or maybe know someone who lives in that area to run it down for you, send an email, and I'll try to give you the best directions for where I saw it.

Good luck with finding a solid car. I'm sure you'll come up with one.

Have a great day,

Hey, maybe you're on to something. Maybe I should move my mother down to drive me around--when people are offensive to her on the highway, she chases them in her 740 Turbo wagon, honks and gives them the bird. She's 72, so who am I to stop her. And with a little old lady behind the wheel, who would shoot back? You should see the looks she gets from her victims (as I'm hiding in the floor in fear).
The SD has a deposit on it, so I'm probably getting the wagon. Even though it doesn't have all the "luxuries", it was NEAR showroom condition. And, being Texas, it's ALL about the new A/C system.
I'll keep you posted...perhaps with a photo!
